This recipe is a MUST around the holidays, but I make it all year long

These indulgent treats deliver the perfect balance of salty, sweet, and crunchy. Buttery crackers layered with rich homemade caramel and smooth melted chocolate come together to create a truly irresistible dessert—often called “Cracker Toffee” or “Christmas Crack.”

How to Make Salted Caramel Cracker Bites (Cracker Toffee):
Step 1: Preheat Oven and Prepare Pan
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Step 2: Make the Salted Caramel Sauce
In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the sugar while stirring constantly until it liquefies and turns a deep amber color.
Carefully add the cubed butter and stir until fully incorporated.
Slowly pour in the heavy cream, stirring continuously (the mixture will bubble vigorously).
Bring to a boil and cook for 1 minute. Remove from heat, then stir in sea salt and vanilla extract.
Step 3: Arrange the Crackers
Lay the saltine crackers in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.
Step 4: Add the Caramel
Pour the hot caramel sauce evenly over the crackers, tilting the pan or using a spatula to spread it smoothly.
Step 5: Bake
Bake for 5–7 minutes, until the caramel is bubbling and the cracker edges turn golden brown.
Step 6: Melt the Chocolate
Remove the pan from the oven and immediately sprinkle the semisweet chocolate chips over the hot caramel layer.
Let them sit for a few minutes until melted from the residual heat.
Step 7: Spread and Finish
Using an offset spatula, spread the melted chocolate evenly over the surface.
Sprinkle the remaining sea salt evenly on top.
Step 8: Cool and Break
Allow the toffee to cool completely at room temperature, or refrigerate until the caramel and chocolate are firm.
Once set, break into bite-sized pieces and enjoy.
