My neighbor demanded I bring a double batch to the church fall festival and they were the absolute first thing to disappear. I can’t believe this is only 3 ingredients.

Southern-Style 3-Ingredient Cheddar Cheese Straws
These homemade Southern cheese straws are a simple yet delicious snack made with just three everyday ingredients. A combination of biscuit baking mix, sharp cheddar, and milk creates tender, cheesy strips with lightly crisp edges and a beautiful golden finish. Perfect for serving at gatherings, alongside soups, or enjoying as a savory afternoon snack.
Ingredients
- 2 cups biscuit baking mix
- 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- ⅔ cup milk
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Heat your oven to 425°F (218°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil.
- Mix the dry ingredients: Place the biscuit baking mix and shredded cheddar cheese in a large bowl. Stir well to distribute the cheese throughout the mixture.
- Add the milk: Gradually pour in the milk, mixing just until a thick, soft dough forms. Be careful not to overwork the dough.
- Shape the straws: Lightly flour your work surface and transfer the dough onto it. Gently roll or press the dough into a rectangle about ½ inch thick. Cut into narrow strips.
- Arrange on the baking sheet: Place the strips on the prepared baking sheet, leaving a little space between each piece.
- Bake: Bake for 10–14 minutes, or until the cheese straws have puffed up and developed golden-brown edges.
- Cool and serve: Allow the straws to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them. Serve warm or at room temperature.
